이 연구는 50명의 노인 우울증 환자를 대상으로 황금사프란과 세르트랄린의 효과를 비교했다. 두 치료 모두 우울증 증상을 유의미하게 감소시켰으나, 두 그룹 간의 차이는 없었다. 연구의 한계는 노인 환자에 대한 연구가 부족하여 일반화에 어려움이 있다는 점이다.
